Collection: Green Toys
At its core, Green Toys has always been an eco-friendly toy company. The founders of the business, Laurie Hyman and Robert von Goeben (pictured below), believe that the best way to encourage environmental change is through goods people buy and use every day—and in this case, that’s children’s products. From their 100% recycled materials (mainly plastic milk cartons) to their US-based manufacturing, they are raising awareness about sustainability while delivering unquestionably safe products.
Children and how they play, what they play with and what the future holds are central to their products and the production process for these fun and classic children's favourites.
The milk cartons they use are 100% post-consumer recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Some products have components made from recycled polypropylene (PP) or recycled low-density polyethylene (LDPE). By using recycled plastic, they divert material from landfills, save energy, and have a reduced carbon footprint. They also use no plastic in their (minimal) packaging and only recyclable cardboard printed with soy inks.
They estimate that for every 500g of recycled milk cartons used to create a Green Toys product saves enough energy to power 3,000 AAA batteries, a TV for 3 weeks, or a laptop computer for 1 month. Due to the nature of recycled plastic, the toys are stronger and more durable than many others and so will last longer (and can be recycled at the end of life too).
Although there are travel miles to get the toys to us in Ireland, we feel that this is worth it due to all the other benefits of these brilliant toys.
